Common Foot Problems in Women

Do you know that over three out of every ten women will have to deal with common foot problems? In fact, one out of every four women will have to deal with these problems at some point in their lives. Three of the top risk factors are aging, diabetes and improper footwear.

It is important to know what your foot is trying to tell you when it has pain or when there is something odd about the way it walks. It is important to change shoes often when experiencing discomfort in the areas of the feet affected. If wearing uncomfortable shoes for a long period of time, such as walking for extended periods of time, causes blisters then it may be time to buy some new shoes.

Here are some of the most common pains:

Shin splints – Shin Splint symptoms include swelling around the top of the foot and the sides. Symptoms include pain in the shins, pain in the joints of the toes and pain during the day. They are caused by wearing ill-fitting shoes. Ingrown toes cause sharp pain between the toes that also feels like a needle.

Other common foot problems with feet include Plantar Fasciitis (pain in the lower portion of the feet), Achilles Tendonitis (inflammation around the tendons in the back of the heel), Herniated Wurshes (affects the wursts at the back of the heels) and Achilles Tendinitis (affects the tendons at the back of the ankle).

There are many treatment options available to treat the above common foot problems. However, before seeing your podiatrist or foot specialist for treatment options, it is important to know more about the cause of the problem in order to better understand the possible treatment options.

Heel Pain

This problem is probably the most common foot problems and is also one of the most painful. The reason for this is because the common foot problems like plantar fasciitis and Achilles tendonitis can make the problem worse. Usually, if you only have a slight heel pain, then you can easily treat it yourself by taking pain relievers or over-the-counter medication. But if you have a hard time walking because of a painful big toe, then it may be time for you and your doctor to see about getting a surgery done. One common solution for this is called Tenon’s Tenet. If you have a severe case of heel pain, then your doctor may opt you for an arthroscopic procedure.

Change in Shoe Size

Sometimes the feet of women do not change their shoe size after pregnancy. This usually happens to the mid-sized women. This is because the feet change sizes throughout the month. Therefore, the feet must be sized carefully after pregnancy.

Heel Fractures

Heel fractures occur when the top of the foot gets twisted due to an unnatural shape of the foot. Women who have a rounded foot shape are more prone to this problem. And because the problem happens when the weight of the body presses the toes, the solution is to wear support stockings and also to use a wide-heeled shoe. This will lessen the pressure on the big toe joint. This will prevent the problem from happening and also from causing damage to the tissues around the toe joint.
